Off-road race begins in Ha Giang’s Dong Van Karst

Ha Giang (VNA)– The first off-road motor race for both motorbikes and cars opened in theUNESCO-recognised Dong Van Karst Global Geopark of the northern mountainousprovince of Ha Giang on April 29.

The event is held in thepine hill area of Lao Va Chai commune in Yen Minh district.

Participants willinclude both professional and amateur racers from home and abroad. They willcompete in motor control demonstrations, natural terrain conditions, timetrials, adventure tracks as well as take part in exchanges.

Speaking at the openingceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ha Giang People’s Committee Tran Duc Quy saidthe race, the first of its kind, is designed to promote cultural values of 19 ethnicgroups and the Dong Van Karst Global Geopark to domestic and foreign visitors.

The event also offers arendezvous for people who love off-road motor race, he said.

According to theorganising board, the two-day competition draws the participation of 63 racers,with total prize worth 837 million VND (about 36,000 USD).

The race is also hopedto expand the province’s cooperation, cultural and sport exchanges, and tourismwith other localities of Vietnam and foreign countries, while raising publicawareness of environmental protection.

Ha Giang records anupward trend of tourist arrivals over the years, which is attributable to theprovince’s policies to attract events which are closely linked with activitiesof local ethnic groups.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
