Hanoi (VNA) – Lam Quang Nhat grabbed a gold medal at the Budapest Swimming Open’s men’s 800m freestyle event, with a time of 8min 10.99sec on July 2 in Hungary.
Apart from the title, Nhat set a new national record, beating the old time of 8:13.70 that he set at the Asian Age Groups Swimming Championships in 2015.
He received his third medal at the tournament. Earlier, he earned a silver medal and a Vietnam record in the 1,500m freestyle, with a time of 15:30.43. On June 30, he was awarded a silver in the 400m freestyle.
His teammate, Tran Duy Khoi competed in the men’s 200m IM, clocking 2:04.39, setting also a new national record. The old record was 2:03.69.
Khoi earlier took a silver in the 400m IM event.
The Vietnamese team concluded the tournament with two golds and four silvers.-VNA
