New publications on the history of South Vietnam released

HCM City’s publishing houses have released dozens of new books featuring the history of South Vietnam on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Reunification Day on April 30.

 HCM City (VNA) - HCM City’s publishing houses have released dozens ofnew books featuring the history of South Vietnam as part of the city’s culturalactivities to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Reunification Day on April 30.  

Tim Trong Di San Van Hoa Phuong Nam (Cultural Heritage of South Vietnam),published by the HCM City Publishing House of Culture and Arts, features newdocuments on the history and folk literature of the southern provinces from1900 to 1940.

The work was co-written by Nguyen Dong Trieu and Phan Manh Hung, who both spentseveral years in collecting and researching documents. 

Another book on the South’s history by historian and author Huynh Lua was alsoreleased by the HCM City General Publishing House. 

The book, Lich Su Khai Pha Vung Dat Nam Bo (History on ReclaimingSouth Vietnam), features the southern land between the 17th century and the20th century. 

It includes documents and information about the region’s politics, economy andculture in different periods.

New titles include a collection of old books featuring the history of South Vietnampublished by the Tre (Youth) Publishing House.

The collection’s 12 books, written in French by members of the IndochinaScientific Research Association, were translated into Vietnamese by a group oftranslators led by Nguyen Nghi.

The books are about the history and development of Gia Dinh, Ben Tre, Chau Doc andVinh Long.

Books featuring the South’s culture and lifestyle, written by researchers suchas Vuong Hong Sen, Nguyen Dinh Dau and Nguyen Dong Chi, are also available.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
