National treasures on display for five months

A special exhibition on Vietnam’s national treasures will take place for five months from January 10, 2017, to May, 2017, the Museum of History announced on December 12.

Hanoi (VNA) – A special exhibition on Vietnam’s national treasures will take placefor five months from January 10, 2017, to May, 2017, the Museum of Historyannounced on December 12.

For the firsttime, all 16 national treasures kept at the museum will be put on display,helping visitors get a systematic understanding of the historical and cultural valuesof the treasures.

The exhibitswill include a Ngoc Lu bronze drum of the Dong Son culture dating back toaround 2,000 to 2,500 years ago, which is the most beautiful and intact drum ofits type discovered so far. It was recognised as a national treasure in 2012.

Another artifactis a Hoang Ha bronze drum, also of Dong Son culture, which was unearthed at NoiThon hamlet, Hoang Ha village, Phu Xuyen district, Ha Son Binh province (Hanoitoday). The drum is relatively intact with unique decorated patterns and isgrouped in the same category with Ngoc Lu bronze drums.

Other nationaltreasures include the Dao Thinh glazed terra-cotta jar, a statue depicting twomen playing panpipes, a lamp in the form of a kneeling person, a boat tomb, theVo Canh stele, the bell at Van Ban Pagoda, among others.

The museum ispreserving nearly 200,000 original documents and objects of historical,cultural and scientific significance.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day
