Ly Son boat-race seeks national recognition

The traditional boat race festival, which has been observed for more than 300 years in the Ly Son island district of central Quang Ngai province, is seeking recognition as part of the national intangible cultural heritage.
The traditional boat race festival, which has been observed for morethan 300 years in the Ly Son island district of central Quang Ngaiprovince, is seeking recognition as part of the national intangiblecultural heritage.

According to Chairman of the district’s People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Nguyen, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is working with relevantagencies to collect and supplement documents featuring the festival’sunique cultures and values relating to national sea and islandsovereignty.

The dossier will be submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, he said.

The traditional boat-race festival is organised between the fourth andeighth day of the Lunar New Year in commemoration of the ancestors andcombatants who sacrificed their lives to safeguard national sovereigntyover the Hoang Sa (Spartly) and Truong Sa (Paracel) archipelagos.

It also prays for peace and prosperity of local fishermen.

Dduring the Nguyen Dynasty ( 1802-1945) , the festival was organisedto choose the healthiest men for the naval fleet patrolling the HoangSa Archipelago.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
