Logo and mascot for Asian beach games approved

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has officially approved the logo and mascot for the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) to be held in the central city of Da Nang in 2016, announced the Vietnam Sports Administration on July 1.

The ABG5 logo is designed to represent waves and sandin the shape of young, healthy and dynamic athletes playing sports withthe OCA’s symbol inside.

All components of thelogo rise up to form a large shape of V standing for Vietnam, Victory,and the number 5 in Roman numerals, for the host country, highlightingthe competition spirit and the athletes’ high aspirations.

The combination of sea and sand reflects the strength and strong willof Vietnamese sports. It also carries the message of friendliness andwelcome, representing the solidarity and friendship of the Asiancommunity with the expectation of a successful event.

Meanwhile, the mascot features a salangane, a typical bird of the Vietnam’s southern central coast.

The mascot is a stylized boy with funny hair on top of the head and asmall V-shaped tail (a characteristic of a salangane) holding a lightedtorch representing solidarity, peace and vitality of mankind.

The colours used for the mascot are blue, red, black and yellow. Themascot with childish energy, innocent facial expression, simple shapeand various colours is expected to touch people hearts and easily toturn into a teddy bear or other souvenirs.

The logoand mascot were selected from a contest which began in 2014 and received198 entries from 62 creators, including 155 logo proposals and 43mascot designs.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
