Late poet Quynh given Ho Chi Minh Prize

Noted late poet Nguyen Thi Xuan Quynh (1942-1988) has been posthumously given the Ho Chi Minh Prize in Literature and Arts, the highest ranking award of its kind in the country.

Hanoi (VNA) - Noted late poet Nguyen Thi Xuan Quynh (1942-1988) has beenposthumously given the Ho Chi Minh Prize in Literature and Arts, the highestranking award of its kind in the country.

Shewas the last name in the list of prize winners in 2016 signed by President TranDai Quang.

Quynhhas got the award for her two collections, Loi Ru Tren Mat Dat (Lullabieson Earth) and Bau Troi Trong Qua Trung (Sky on the Egg), bothdistinguished works that contributed towards building socialism andstrengthening the country’s resistance to foreign invasions.

Quynhwas recruited and trained to work as a dancer for the Central Art Troupe in1955. Between 1962 and 1964, she joined a writing course organised by theWriters’ Association. She then worked for Van Nghe (Literatureand Arts) newspaper, Phu Nu (Women) newspaper and Tac Pham Moi(New Work) publishing house. She died in a car accident in 1988 along with herhusband, noted poet Luu Quang Vu, and her 13-year-old son Luu Khanh Tho. Bythen she had published dozens of poetry and prose anthologies.

Consideredone of the most distinguished poets of the 20th century in Vietnam, her poemsare full of emotions and reflect the deep feelings of an emotional woman andmother. Many of her poems are very popular, including Thuyen va Bien (Boatand Sea), Song (Wave) and Tho Tinh Cuoi Mua Thu (LoveSong for End of Autumn), and some have been composed into songs.

Shewas posthumously given the State Prize in Literature and Arts in 2001.

OnJanuary 5, 2017, the President published a decision to give the same prize to10 other authors and groups who have published excellent work in the field ofliterature and art.

Theliving authors and artists who are recipients of the prize include People’sartists Le Ngoc Canh and Chu Thuy Quynh, drama stage researcher Mich Quang andcomposer Chu Minh.

Otherswho have got the award posthumously are writer Nguyen Xuan Thieu (1930-2007),writer Tran Huu Mai (1926-2007) and composer Hoang Ha (1929-2013).

ThePresident has also given the State Prize in Literature and Arts to 56 livingpeople and groups, and 11 late artists.

TheHo Chi Minh Prize in Literature and Arts is the highest award of its kind givenby the State to individuals and groups who have made significant contributionsto the field, and so far, it has been given five times, in 1996, 2000, 2005,2012 and 2016.

TheState Prize in Literature and Arts is the second-highest ranking nationalaward, and has been given in 2001, 2007, 2012 and 2016.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
