Hoang Thien wins year-end Vietnam Masters

The Ho Chi Minh City-based player defeated Trinh Linh Giang of Hanoi 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the men's final match.

Thien, who was the first Vietnamese to compete at the AustralianOpen's junior category two years ago, dominated Giang throughout thematch.

His strong serves kept Giang at the baselinethroughout the match. Also, Giang was unable to resist attacks at thenet from Thien, who received strong home support. Giang lost three breakpoints in the first set, two each in the remaining two matches, whilenot winning a break point against Thien.

TheDecember 30 Masters final was the first for both players. And it is thefirst title for Thien in three of the largest national tournaments ofthe year. Giang has not won a title this year.

TheMasters, an end-of-year tournament, offers a total of 280 million VND(13,300 USD) in prize money. The cream of the crop will be selected forthe country's David Cup and the Fed Cup qualification rounds.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
