Hoang Sa, Truong Sa documents on show in Hai Phong

Hai Phong (VNA) - An exhibition of historical evidence proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos opened in the northern port city of Hai Phong on June 14.

The event is jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication, and Naval Command Region 1, based in Tan Duong commune, Thuy Nguyen district.

On display is a series of maps, atlases and documents in traditional Chinese and Vietnamese languages issued by feudal and modern Vietnamese states from the 17th to the 20th century, and from China. All affirm Vietnam’s continuous and legal sovereignty over these islands.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong said the exhibition aims to make public the legal evidence and historical truth on Vietnam’s sovereignty over these islands among Vietnamese people as well as to international friends.

The event also gives viewers an insight into the patriotism and bravery of the previous Vietnamese generations, thus raising the awareness of the need to protect the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands among Vietnamese people, Hong added.

Commander of Navy Region 1 Le Ngoc Quyet said this is the first time the residents, soldiers and officers in the Region have witnessed the historical documents proving sovereignty over these islands.

The event contributes to reaffirming Vietnam’s inviolable sovereignty over the two archipelagos as well as the country’s stance on protection of sea and island sovereignty.

The event runs until June 17. All exhibits will be given to Navy Region 1 after the exhibition.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day
