HCM City to launch Ao Dai Festival 2017

A fashion show to highlight ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) will open the Ao Dai Festival 2017 on HCM City’s Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 on March 3.

HCM City (VNA) - A fashion showto highlight ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) will open the Ao DaiFestival 2017 on HCM City’s Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 on March3.

The show Charming Vietnamese Ao Dai will attract 30 fashion models in ao daifrom the latest collections by designers such as Si Hoang, Thuan Viet and Vo VietChung. 

The event is one of many cultural and artactivities of the annual Ao Dai Festival, organised by the city’s Department ofCulture, Sports and Tourism.


This year, the festival’s theme is Ao Dai-Toi Yeu Vietnam (Ao Dai - I Love Vietnam), aiming to honour and promotetraditional cultural values as well as the beauty and grace of the ao dai,which has become the symbol of feminine beauty in Vietnam.

The event will include an exhibition on aodai at the Ao Dai Museum and two open-air music and song programmes featuringpop stars and young singers, including Dong Nhi, Huong Tram and Noo Phuoc Thinh.

More than 40 garment and textile companiesand fashion houses have signed to join the two-day festival.

A contest on designing ao dai for the workplaceas well as ceremonies and festivals will also be organised by the city’s YouthCultural House.

Dozens of photo and picture exhibitions onwomen in ao dai will be held at universities and cultural centres around thecity.

Last year, the festival attracted more than50,000 foreign and local visitors.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.
