HCM City (VNA) – Athletes from HoChi Minh City topped the 18th national sports tournament for the disabled,which concluded in the city on June 19.
The HCM City team bagged 269 gold, 246silver and 140 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Hanoi’s team came second with 125 golds,79 silvers and 55 bronzes, followed by Quang Tri with 18 gold, 27 silver and 11bronze medals.
The HCM City and Hanoi teams also won firstand second places in the junior tournament for the disabled, while Thai Nguyen camethird.
Vu The Phiet, vice chairman and generalsecretary of the Vietnam Paralympics Association said this year’s tournamentwas held in a larger scale than previous years, drawing many young talents withbright prospects for the Asian Para Games and Paralympic Games 2020.
The event was organised by the Vietnam Paralympics Association, the NationalSports Administration and the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports andTourism. It drew more than 1,000 athletes and coaches from 32 localities acrossthe country.
It aimed to select athletes for theupcoming ninth ASEAN Para Games. Vietnam team is expected to have 110 athletes competingin seven out of 16 sports at the event.-VNA
