Hanoi to open Tet produce market

Cultural activities featuring traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) activities and a special organic produce market will be held at a Spring Festival in downtown Hanoi from February 2-8.

Hanoi (VNA) - Cultural activities featuring traditional Tet (LunarNew Year) activities and a special organic produce market will be held at aSpring Festival in downtown Hanoi from February 2-8.

The Vietnam Exhibition Centre of Culture and Art will present food and art toprepare for Tet celebration, such as banh chung (square glutinous cake), tea,lanterns, calligraphy, flowers and mam ngu qua (a set of five kinds of fruits).

Duong VanQuynh, director of the centre, said artisans from traditional craft villagesnationwide would display their skills. They would introduce paper flowers fromThanh Tien village (Hue), silverwork from Chau Khe village (Hai Duong), bamboo dragonflies from Thach That district(Hanoi) and conical hats from Chuong village, Thanh Oai district (Hanoi).

An exhibition of 100 photos will introduce cultural heritage, nature and thetraditional celebrations of Vietnamese people.

A space will also feature how Vietnamese celebrated Lunar New Year in the past.

This is the Year of the Dog, an animal in the Asian zodiac that is compatiblewith Tiger and the Horse, so the exhibition will recall historical events thathappened in Dog years and famous people born in past Dog years.

Visitors will be able to buy organic produce organised by the exporting ANAVietnam Company, and precious stones from members of the Vietnam GemstonesAssociation.

Visitors will be able to enjoy New Year cuisine area with specialties cooked insmall huts with leaf roofs.

Artists will also perform at the event. They will be from the Tuoi Tre (Youth)Theatre, the Vietnam Music, Dance and Songs Theatre, the Vietnam CircusFederation, the Vietnam Cheo (Traditional Operetta) Theatre and the VietnamCentral Puppetry Theatre.

The festival will be held from 9am to 9pm at the Vietnam Exhibition, Cultureand Art Centre, 2 Hoa Lu street, Hanoi. - VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
