Hanoi to host ASEAN music festival

Bands from Myanmar , Thailand , Singapore , the Philippines and Vietnam will take to the main stage for a full day of music at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) music festival next weekend.

Entitled Artwork is Work, the event will beheld from 2pm to 11pm on May 11 at the American Club, 19-21 Hai BaTrung Street , Hanoi by the US Embassy in Hanoi and CAMA Vietnam.

Festival performers include garage rockers BloodSugar Politik (Myanmar), traditional Thai funk act Molam International(Thailand), the post-rock algorithms of Pulso (the Philippines),nu-metal band 18+ (Vietnam) and genre-defying electronic sound artistsMuon (Singapore).

Myanmar ’s Blood Sugar Politik has more thana decade of writing energetic music together. The band is anintoxicating blend of rock, punk, ska and folk with lashings of energy,and subtle undertones of the country’s classic rock.

Pulso does melogy and rhythm, matching patterns and overlaying acoustic harmonies into dreamy post-rock pieces.

Singapore ’s band Muon is a musical collective, delving through electronic experimentation and beat science.

Vietnam ’s MinMetals will open the festival. The band is new on thecapital’s music scene but their mix of alternative rock, indie and discodid a lot to impress at rock festivals.

Besidesnon-stop live music on the main stage, the festival will feature acreative arts market run by the Hanoi Flea Market and a visual artsexhibition curated by Hanoi 's Onion Cellar collective.

As well as promoting pride in the cultural vibrancy of modern ASEANnations, the festival is also intended to highlight the importance ofintellectual property rights enforcement in ASEAN countries.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

The Vietnam Jungle Marathon (VJM) returns for its seventh edition, welcoming around 1,500 runners from almost 40 nations to the stunning trails of Pu Luong Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa province on October 19, featuring picturesque 10km to 70km routes.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
