Under the strategy, the capital city plans to develop a pool of 4,500athletes, 1,100 of which are professional athletes, and to bring thenumber of coaches and umpires at all levels to 850 and 1,000,respectively.
The strategy also includes between10 and 12 athletes competing in each of the next two Olympic Games andbringing home medals.
Post-2020 Olympic Games targets between 13 and 15 athletes winning at least one gold medal.
The city lists its 20 sports with strong showings, athletics, aquaticsports, weightlifting, taekwondo, wrestling, shooting, karatedo, tabletennis, gymnastics, fencing, archery, rowing, canoeing & kayak,cycling, judo, women’s boxing, badminton, wushu, sepak takraw andfootball.
The city hopes that its athletes willmake up about one-third of all Vietnamese athletes at the 18 th AsianGames and win at least two gold medals.
At theSoutheast Asian Games, the city’s athletes aims for around 30 percent ofall gold medals won, helping the country stand firmly in the top three.
First place at the National Games is a goal the city wants to maintain.
To fuel these targets, sports facilities across the city will be upgraded.-VNA
