Seoul (VNA) - A football tournament forVietnamese people in the Republic of Korea (RoK), the fourth of its kind, washeld in Osan city, Gyeonggy province, on October 2 to raise fund for poorstudents at home.
Addressing the openingceremony, First Secretary of the Embassy of Vietnam in the RoK Cao Minh Duchighlighted the significant contributions the Vietnamese expatriates have madeto the host country.
Duc expressed his hopethat the Vietnamese community in the RoK will continue enhancing theirsolidarity in the country while providing practical assistance fordisadvantaged people at home, pledging that the embassy will continuouslysupport such activities.
Chairman of the Council ofOsan city Hwan Son-Cheong extended his thanks to the overseas Vietnamesecommunity for their contributions to the city and vowed to continuefacilitating their living and working, thus promoting the Vietnam – RoKrelationship, particularly in the people-to-people diplomacy.
Nguyen Ngoc Cam, Presidentof the Association of the overseas Vietnamese people in the RoK, said the eventwill be annually organised in the coming years.
Last year’s tournamentraised nearly 10,000 USD, which was used to build the Truong Xuan Primary Schoolin Quang Ninh district, the central province of Quang Binh.
The proceedings of thisyear’s event will be spent on building a boarding house for students at Tra Donschool, Tra My district, the central province of Quang Nam.
Currently, more than150,000 Vietnamese people are living and working in the RoK, with one thirdbeing guest workers. The number is increasing fast together with strongdevelopment of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the RoK,particularly in people-to-people diplomacy.-VNA
