Fishing festival-goers pray for good fortune

Thousands of fishermen joined a festival in Da Nang city’s Thanh Khe district on February 15 to pray for bumper hauls of fish and safe voyages at sea, as well as peace, happiness and prosperity throughout the year.

Cau Ngu Festival is heldevery year on the 16th of the first lunar month. It is the biggestfestival of fishermen in the central coastal city.

CauNgu Festival represents the desire of the fishermen for a peacefullife, free from the difficulties and dangers that can occur when out atsea.

“Last year, we enjoyed big catches but encountereda number of storms as well. Now, we pray for safety first and foremost,while still hoping to harvest more fish than last year, said Tran TienThanh, captain of boat DN90340 in Da Nang City’s Thanh Khedistrict.

During festival days, there are manyactivities and traditional games which only take place in coastal areas,such as swimming and boat racing. Folk games such as net knittingcompetition and fish salad cooking are also held.

There are now around 1,900 fishing boats in Da Nang city.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
