A 60 sq.m ceramic picture of brightlycoloured lines and designs made by painter Nguyen Thu Thuy was unveiledon July 14 in Long Bien district in Hanoi city, as part of the “Ceramicroad along the Red River” project to celebrate the 1,000th anniversaryof Thang Long – Hanoi.
Thanks to the creative efforts of artists in and outside the country,and to the financial support of the municipal People’s Committee andcompanies and organisations including the US Ford Foundation, theSingaporean Art Action fund, among others, over the past year, a 1,500sq.m embankment along the Red River has been decorated with colourfulmosaics.
The 6km-long ceramic road, running run from Au Co Avenue through NghiTam, Yen Phu, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai and Tran Khanh Du roads,will comprise 21 sections of ceramic pictures, each featuring a uniquetheme, including historical periods of decorative arts in Vietnam,modern Ha Noi painters, international artists, and artists from allover the country, as well as art by children.
Apart from the assistance of Michael Geertsen, an artist from Denmark,and Dominique de Miscault from France, many other artists from the UK,the US, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Poland have registered tojoin the project.
Inspired by this project, an artist from Argentina has called fora creation of a new ceramic wall to mark the 200th anniversary of theMay Revolution of 1810 in her country.
The first 10 sq.m ceramic mosaic will be made by “Ceramic road along the Red River” project artists to present to Argentina.
Nguyen Thu Thuy said the project will strive to make it into theGuiness Book of World Records for the world’s longest ceramic pictureby 2010./.
42 Vietnamese movies to compete at 7th Hanoi Int’l Film Festival
A total of 42 Vietnamese movies will compete in three categories, namely feature films, short films, and contemporary Vietnam films, at the upcoming seventh Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VII), according to the organising board.
