 HCM City (VNA) - Film screeningswill begin nationwide to celebrate the anniversary of War Invalids and MartyrsDay on July 27.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture,Sports and Tourism, in co-operation with Vietnam Cinema Department andDistribution and Screening Film Company (Fafilm VN), together with localcinemas, a full schedule of Vietnamese films and documentaries will beorganised.

The schedule includes 14 feature films,including Nha Tien Tri (The Prophet), Giai Phong Sai Gon (Liberating Sai Gon)and Nguoi Tro Ve (The Return of Soldiers).

Produced by state-owned film studios, thesefilms feature revolutionaries, soldiers and post-war events.

Veteran director Vuong Duc’s Nha Tien Tri,a 120-minute biopic of President Ho Chi Minh, impressed audiences after itdebuted in 2015.

Based on a screenplay by veteran author HoangNhuan Cam, the film is about the life of the President from 1947 to 1954 duringthe war against the French.

Cam’s work is based on short stories andpoems written by the President, including Viet Bac Anh Dung (Brave Viet Bac)and Giac Ngu 10 Nam (Ten Years of Sleep).

The film recounts the President’s time inthe Viet Bac Military Base (located in the northern provinces of Cao Bang, BacKan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen), as the country’s first presidentwho led the Vietnamese in their struggle and fight against French colonialism.

People’s Artist Bui Bai Binh plays the roleof President Ho Chi Minh.

He worked hard with three experts inFrench, Russian and Chinese to feature the leader, who was proficient inseveral foreign languages.

Nha Tien Tri was sent to the MoscowInternational Film Festival 2016.

Another featured film is Nguoi Tro Ve, aproduction about the post-war period by female director Dang Thai Huyen.

Produced by the People’s Army Film, thefilm won the Silver Kite prize for best feature film at the Vietnam FilmFestival last year.   

There will also be a series ofdocumentaries screened, including 70 Nam Dat Nuoc Niem Tin Va Anh Sang (70Years of the Country- Belief and Light), Bac Ho Voi Nong Dan (Uncle Ho andFarmers) and Dien Bien Phu (Dien Bien Phu Battle).  

The screenings will take place from July 24to August 19.

Director Phan Minh Son’s 70 Nam Dat NuocNiem Tin Va Anh Sang, a production featuring the country’s history anddevelopments by the Giai Phong (Liberation) Film Studio, will start the event.

The opening ceremony will take place in PhuTho province’s Culture and Film Screening Centre.

The organisers will also deliver videos andDVDs of films to people living in rural districts and neighbouringprovinces.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
