Thai Nguyen (VNA) – A tea festivalwas held in Thai Nguyen city in the northern province of the same name onFebruary 26 to promote special tea products made in Tan Cuong commune.
Chairman of the Thai Nguyen City People’sCommittee Le Quang Tien said the city is home to 1,200 hectares of tea withannual average revenue of 250 million VND (11,000 USD) per hectare. In TanCuong commune, the earnings from tea reach up to 600-800 million VND perhectare.
According to Do Thi Hiep, Director of the TanHuong tea cooperative in Phuc Xuan commune, the annual festival featured a widerange of activities such as old tea tree parade and tea-making contests.
The event also looks to promote community-basedtourism in the region via introducing tea products to domestic and foreignvisitors.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentNguyen Xuan Cuong said Thai Nguyen tea is famous both at home and abroad,adding that Tan Cuong is a region with special climate and soil for the developmentof tea trees.
He called on the locality to make the best useof its advantages to create clean and organic products.
Tan Cuong tea possesses an incredibly delicioustaste that can mesmerize any tea drinkers including the pickiest ones.
The tea-making process in Tan Cuong region isvery complicated that depends much on the skills of workers to achieve the bestquality. Fresh tea buds and leaves after being carefully picked will be driednaturally before wilting. Then people will roast the buds and leaves in a panwith fixed level of temperature until the buds begin to curl up and desiccated.After picking from the trees, green tea buds are stored carefully to ensure theperfect state before delivering to the factory for processing.-VNA
