Festival in Ha Nam celebrates famous general

A food-distributing festival will be held on Feb. 5 night at the Tran Thuong Temple where 80,000 food parcels will be handed out, containing such staples as corn and rice.

The temple islocated in the Nhan Dao commune of Ly Nhan district, in the northernprovince of Ha Nam , roughly 50km south of Hanoi . It is one of thethree largest in the country dedicated to Tran Hung Dao (1228-1300),his family and other generals who made great contributions in the fightagainst the invading Mongols in the 13th century.


Localresidents have long organised food distribution ceremonies at thebeginning of the lunar New Year to commemorate the general'sachievements and to educate younger generations about the importance ofsaving and stockpiling food for emergencies.


Nowadays,the symbolic portions are considered a lucky charm for the new year andmany locals and visitors from other regions flock to the festival toreceive them.


This year, the festival is expected to bebigger than usual, as tourists are being welcomed, and is set to exceedlast year's figure of 30,000 food parcels distributed./.

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
