Festival for Hoang Sa sailors concludes

The Feast and Commemoration Festival for Hoang Sa Soldiers concluded in Quang Ngai on Apr 29.
Various art and cultural activities were held from April 25-29 inresponse to the Feast and Commemoration Festival for Hoang Sa Soldiersand Quang Ngai Sea and Island Culture Week, which wrapped up incentral Quang Ngai province on April 29.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Le Quang Thich said the festival is held annually topreserve and uphold tangible and intangible cultural heritages unique toQuang Ngai.

He highlighted the success of eventslike an international seminar on sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Saarchipelagoes, photo and painting exhibitions, folk games and musicperformances.

On the occasion, the Ministry ofCulture, Sports and Tourism granted certificates recognising thefestival as part of the nation’s intangible heritage and the An Vinhcommunal temple as a national historical site.

According to Vietnam’s feudal state history, the Hoang Sa Flotillawas set up when the Nguyen Lords began their reign in the south of thecountry. Thousands of sailors overcame roaring waves and storms tosurvey sea routes, plant markers and erect steles affirming nationalterritory in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, and minemarine resources ordered by Nguyen Lords. Their missions were full ofdangers, and many of them never returned to land.

To pay tribute to the men enlisted in the flotilla, the festival hasbeen observed for hundreds of years by families on Ly Son islands and inQuang Ngai coastal areas.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

The Vietnam Jungle Marathon (VJM) returns for its seventh edition, welcoming around 1,500 runners from almost 40 nations to the stunning trails of Pu Luong Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa province on October 19, featuring picturesque 10km to 70km routes.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
