Hanoi (VNA) – Evacuees in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang returnedtheir home on December 26 as typhoon Tembin weakened into a low tropicalpressure.

Soc Trang authorities moved about 30.000 local residents to safe places.

According to Chairmanof the provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Chuyen, ferries crossing rivers haveresumed operation, while fishing vessels have been asked to wait for localauthorities’ permission to go out to sea.

Meanwhile, Nguyen TienHai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ca Mau province said that about evacuated82,000 people whose houses are in risky areas in the locality also returnedhome from their shelter on December 26.

On December 26, heavyrain and strong wind have been seen in many localities. Locals are warned notto neglect safety measures to protect themselves and their property.

At the same time, allagencies, sectors and locals of Ben Tre province have resumed their normalactivities. About 21,000 Ben Tre people were displaced due to the storm.

In the coastaldistrict of Can Gio of Ho Chi Minh City, all evacuated people are allowed to returntheir home, but students have still had day off and ships are still banned togo out to sea.

In Tien Giangprovince, the weather has become better on December 26, allowing all people toreturn their normal life.

About 50,000 peoplein the two coastal districts of Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong were evacuated, whilenearly 800 fishing boats were banned from operating at sea before TyphoonTembin, the 16th of its kind in the East Sea, approached.

At 4am on December 26, the centre of the low pressure was in the watersoffshore Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces with the strongest wind speed of 40-60kmper hour.

 In the next 12 hours, it will move west at aspeed of 15-20km per hour.

 The lowpressure is forecast to bring heavy rains along the coast from Binh Dinh to PhuYen, posing a risk of flash flood and landslides.-VNA
