HCM City (VNA) - Vietnamese and foreign fashion designers will introduce luxury and ready-to-wear clothing and accessories at the Elle Fashion Journey 2016 at HCM City’s Gem Centre this week.

More than 150 clothing items will be displayed in the latest collections from designers Dieu Anh, Quang Nhat, Thuy Nguyen, Tuan Tran, Anh-Ha, Giao Linh, Anna Vo, and Jane Nuchsuda.

The clothing, made of high-quality Vietnamese materials, will feature the event’s theme, Inspiring Vietnam. The collections will also include accessories made by local craftspeople.

More than 100 fashion models will be included.

The event will include talk shows, workshops, exhibitions and forums on the industry, which are expected to attract dozens of international and local fashion brand names and garment companies.

Featured exhibitions include Fashion Road Trip, which will include collections by final-year students in design from leading universities such as Ton Duc Thang University, Hoa Sen University and HCM City of Architecture.

Fashion Road Trip began yesterday and will run through October 7.

The organisers hope the event this year will offer opportunities for young designers to promote their brand names and sales.

"Elle Fashion Show 2016 is not just a catwalk but also a place for both fashion designers and models to promote themselves in a professional way,” said Xuan Lan, a member of the event’s organising board.

Young talent Vo will introduce her latest collection, Macadonia, at the event.

Her 30 designs, using vivid colours, for men and women is reviving a trend from the 1970s.

Her older colleague, Anh will introduce a collection of 25 pieces of clothing in denim for women aged under 30.

Anh said she hopes her collection will offer something new after she closed her own fashion company five years ago.

Linh and Nguyen, using only silk, highlight the modern beauty of women, both old and young, who look charming in swathes of blue and white.

In their collections, Tran and Nhat use cotton and khaki in simple but high-end styles.

While Anh-Ha’s autumn-winter designs are suited for people who love classical styles, Thai designer Nuchsuda, who now lives in Vietnam with her husband, offers clothes in metallic and white for urban women.

The Elle Fashion Show 2016 will take place on September 30 and October 1 at Gem Centre, 8 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, District 1.-VNA
