Both the Philippines and Indonesia were hit by earthquakes on October 17, but no reports about damage are available.

Hanoi (VNA) – Boththe Philippines and Indonesia were hit by earthquakes on October 17, but noreports about damage are available.

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake shookthe Occidental Mindoro province in the Philippines, with shaking felt inManila.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismologysaid the quake struck at a depth of 33 kilometres, and is likely to cause nodamage, but there will be aftershocks.

Thequake hitting Indonesia measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.

ThePhilippines and Indonesia are located on the so-called‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, an arc of fault lines circling the Pacific Basin whichare prone to frequent and large earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions also occur frequentlyin the region./.

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
