Hanoi (VNA) – A 5.2-magnitude earthquakehit Surigao Del Sur province in the southern Philippines on October 1.
According to the Philippine Institute ofVolcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake’s epicentre was 16km deep,about 68km northeast of Bayabas town.
Tremors could be felt in the province’sSurigao city.
Phivolcs experts said there would be moreaftershocks but no damage is expected.
The Philippines lies along the"Pacific Ring of Fire" which is surrounded by numerous active faultsand trenches on both sides of the archipelago. The country has frequent seismicactivities.
In mid-August this year, a 6.7-magnitudestruck the country’s central region, damaging buildings and roads and killingat least one person./.
