Disabled swimmer wins bronze medal at IPC Swimming

Disabled swimmer Vo Thanh Tung won a bronze medal at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 18.

Tungfinished third in the men's 50m freestyle-S5 with a time of 34.88sec,earning a ticket to compete at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

His time of 34.88 overcame the A standard of 38.95 to qualify for the Paralympic Games next year.

EarlierTrinh Thi Bich Nhu also brought home a silver medal in the women's 100mbreaststroke-SP5 with a time of 1:57.43 to also secure a place inBrazil.

At the 2014 Asian Para Games held in October last year inIncheon, the Republic of Korea, the southern province of Can Tho-bornTung was awarded five gold medals. He is the Asian record holder in the50m freestyle and 100m freestyle event.

Vietnam sent fourathletes to compete in this event, which attracted 580 athletes fromnearly 70 countries. This is the second time Vietnam has taken part inthis world event. The last meet was held in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in2011.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
