Hai Duong (VNA) – The Con Son – Kiep Bac Spring Festival 2019commenced in the northern province of Hai Duong on February 20, or the 16th day of the first lunar month.

Attending the event were Vice PresidentDang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’sExecutive Council Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, leading officials ofministries and sectors, and crowds of Buddhist dignitaries and followers andlocals.

This year’s festival aims to mark the 685thdeath anniversary of monk Huyen Quang (1254-1334), the third progenitor of TrucLam Zen Buddhism, and popularise the values of the relic site.

Covering a total area of eight hectares inChi Linh district, the Con Son-Kiep Bac historical site is entwined with thelife and cause of general Tran Hung Dao, the Supreme Commander of Vietnamduring the Tran Dynasty, and it was where UNESCO’s Great Man of Culture of theWorld, Nguyen Trai (1380-1442), one of Vietnam’s most famous poets and writers,lived.

The site was a defence line built at theend of the 14th century to protect the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. Itwitnessed important battles between the Tran Dynasty army and the Yuan-Mongolinvaders in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Con Son-Kiep Bac was recognised as anational heritage site in 1962 and a special national heritage site in 2012.The next year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism named the SpringFestival a national intangible cultural heritage.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
