Christmas concert to be staged in Ho Chi Minh City

A Christmas concert will be held at Saigon Opera House from December 16-17, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) on December 12.

Hanoi (VNA) – A Christmas concert will be held at Saigon OperaHouse from December 16-17, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestraand Opera (HBSO) on December 12.

Vietnamese artistsPham Khanh Ngoc, Dao Mac and Duyen Nguyet will perform with the HBSO’s symphonyorchestra and choir and the children's choir from the Republic of Korea under the baton of conductorTran Nhat Minh who was trained in both Russia and Italy and is the chorus master of theHBSO.

TheChristmas concert is set to begin with a popular orchestra piece calledChristmas Festival by Leroy Anderson, an American composer of light music wholived from 1908 to 1975.

Followingthis will be two pieces, including Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate featuring PhamKhanh Ngoc, a female vocalist who has won a number of international vocal prizes.A chorus from Handel’s Messiah, For Unto Us a Child is Born, will then beplayed.

German Christmas song Maria Wiegenlied by MaxReger will then be performed by soprano soloist Duyen Nguyet.

A Christmas Scherzo by American arranger andkeyboard player Don Sebesky and O Holy Night will then be played by Dao Mac, abaritone who plays many roles in HBSO operas, from Papageno in The Magic Fluteto Doctor Falk in Die Fledermaus.

The solo orchestra willreturn with Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, before leading into Variations onJingle Bells led by the HBSO chorus.

Most notably, a groupof Korean children residing in Ho Chi Minh City will then bring to the stage aperformance Santa Claus is Coming to Town, as well as singing festive songsfrom the movie Home Alone./.

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
