Phnom Penh (VNA)– Cambodia will prevent any actions to hinder the communal election process,said the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Samdech Sarkhengat a meeting on May 4.
The official affirmedthat the past and upcoming elections are important milestones of the country.
Cambodian Prime MinisterSamdech Hun Sen also asked the Defence and Interior Ministries to collaboratewith the National Election Committee to devise plans to ensure order and safetyfor the election, preventing any acts of sabotage in any forms.
The commune/ward electionof Cambodia is scheduled for June 6 with the participation of 12 politicalparties. Both of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the oppositionCambodian National Rescue Party registered to run for all posts at 1,646 communal/ward councils across the nation.
The electoral campaign will start from May 20 to June 2.
The commune/ward election is held in Cambodia in every five years. In themost recent election on June 3, 2012 with 10 major parties participating in,the ruling CPP won 1,592 seats at 1,633 communes and wards nationwide,accounting for 97 percent.-VNA
