Directorof the relic Nguyen Tien Khoi said that of the drums, 17 will be ondisplay and serve all cultural activities to commemorate Hung Kingsdeath’s anniversary, five will be presented to Vietnamese embassiesabroad after the Hung Kings Temple Festival and the remaining one to HoChi Minh Presidential Palace.
Casted by the Lam Kinh CulturalHeritage Association in the central province of Thanh Hoa, the drums areabout 48-108cm in height and 60-108 cm in diametre. Five drums to bepresented to the embassies were cast with images of theUNESCO-recognised cultural heritage sites in Vietnam.
Among thoseplaced in the Hung Temple National Historical Relic, the biggest one ofthe “Bronze Drums – Resounding of the Ancestral Land” collection whichweighs 470kg and is 88cm in height and 108 cm in diametre, Khoi said.
Thedeath anniversary of Hung Kings will be commemorated together with thecelebration of the Hung Kings Temple Festival from April 7 (the fifthday of the third lunar month) to April 12 (the 10th day of the thirdlunar month) in Phu Tho province.
Legend has it that Lac LongQuan, who was a dragon, met and married fairy Au Co, who later gavebirth to 100 eggs from which 100 children sprang forth. The couple thenparted due to their different origins. The man went seawards with 50 oftheir children, while his wife went to the mountains with the other halfof the clan. The eldest son, who followed his father, later installedhimself as Vietnam's first Hung King and today's Vietnamese people aresaid to be descendants of those children./.
