Bac Ninh preserves and develops Quan Ho folk songs

Quan Ho love duet singing has been recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. Bac Ninh province has made efforts to preserve the art to implement commitments to UNESCO on conservation and development of Quan Ho.

Hanoi (VNA) - Quan Ho love duet singinghas been recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. Bac Ninhprovince has made efforts to preserve the art to implement commitments toUNESCO on conservation and development of Quan Ho.

Through eight performances, "The Quan Ho singing on the full moonnight" organised by Bac Ninh City Culture and Sports Centre has left manygood impression on the public. The programme has formed a playground forcommunity cultural activities for local residents to cultivate knowledge andexpress love for this unique type of heritage.

In the culture of Bac Ninh, the ancient Quan Ho songs create strongrelationships between the Quan Ho guilds and those who love the traditionalculture of Bac Ninh–Kinh Bac.

Artisan Nguyen Thi Kim Quynh, Chairman of the Duong Xa Club, Bac Ninh City saidsinging folk songs on the full-moon night depicts our love for Quan Ho, and theeagerness to promote folk songs to a wider audience.

Pham Minh Tuyet from Suoi Hoa Ward said she loves Quan Ho and often watchesartists perform folk songs.

She expressed her hope that localauthorities continue to pay attention to supporting the artisans in preserving QuanHo folk songs so they can be passed onto future generations.

In recent years, Bac Ninh has invested in renovation and construction ofcultural institutions. Of which, the key project is Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk theatre.The 90-billion-VND project boasts an area of 1.9 ha on fourfloors. It has a unique architectural design in the image of a house, dragonboat, a strip of peach silk and a large round hat, bearing cultural features ofBac Ninh–Kinh Bac.

Le Manh Thang, Director of Quan Ho Folk Theater, said previously, without thecurrent facilities, many artists tried their best to study, popularize andpromote their folk songs to the community.

With support provided authorities at all levels, the artists have beenenthusiastic and motivated in conserving as well as staging new programmes tointroduce Quan Ho to tourists, he said.

Implementing its commitment to UNESCO, throughout the years, Bac Ninh has calledfor efforts made at all levels, branches and people's communities, in jointlyimplementing the project "Preserving and promoting the value of intangiblecultural heritage, Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs and Ca tru in 2013-2020 ”.

In particular, Bac Ninh is the leading province in developing mechanisms andpolicies to honour and reward artisans in the field of intangible culturalheritage, according to Resolution No. 213, 2015 of the Provincial People'sCouncil. This is a move to nurture passion, enthusiasm, dedication of talentsto preserve and promote the cultural heritage values ofthe nation.

With the attention and support of the localgovernment, Quan Ho folk songs have increasingly gained the applause of a broaderaudience. This has affirmed the strong and persistent vitality of a unique andquintessential art form of a land rich in historical, cultural andrevolutionary traditions.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
