Da Nang (VNA) – The Vietnam Tennis Open Da Nang City 2019 closed inthe central city on January 12 after seven days of competition, with thetrophies in the singles and doubles going to Spain’s Marcel Granollers and duoCheng-Peng Hsieh and Christopher Rungkat.
In the singles’ finalmatch, Marcel Granollers, who is at the 96th place of the Association of TennisProfessional (ATP)’s rankings, easily defeated Italy’s Matteo Viola, the 292ndplace, 2-0 to secure cash worth 7,200 USD and 80 points in the ATP rankings.
Meanwhile, the finalmatch between duo Cheng-Peng Hsieh (Taiwan) and Christopher Rungkat (Indonesia)and duo Leander Paes (India) and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela (Mexico) wasconsidered one of the fiercest matches of the tourney when it entered a supertie-break.
After winning thefirst set with a result of 6-3, Cheng-Peng Hsieh and Christopher Rungkat weredefeated 2-6 in the second set, before winning 11-9 in the super tie-break set.They pocketed 3,100 USD and 80 points in the ATP rankings each.
Vietnamese No. 1player Ly Hoang Nam and Trinh Linh Giang competed in the men’s singles, whileNam and his teammate Le Quoc Khanh, and Giang and Vietnamese American DanielNguyen played in the doubles. However, they were defeated by their strongrivals.
It is the first timeDa Nang city has hosted a professional tennis tournament in the ATP system.
The tournament, drawingthe participation of 48 Vietnamese and foreign players, offers total cashprizes of 55,000 USD and 80 points in the ATP rankings each for winners ofsingle and double titles.-VNA
