Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador tothe Republic of Korea (RoK) Ly Xuong Can signed an agreement in Hanoi onJanuary 30 with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) to establishan office to promote Vietnamese tourism in the host nation.
Under the agreement, which is effective until December 31,2020, the VNAT and the ambassador will provide information about Vietnam’stourism to Korean tourists, organise tours to Vietnam, and help Vietnameseagencies and businesses organise tourism promotion events in the RoK.
Can will partner with the VNAT’s Tourism Market Departmentto build and launch tourism promotion events, as well as provide information aboutVietnam’s tourism events, major tourist destinations, and prestigious tourismservices.
He will also inform the VNAT about Korean tourism policiesand products, as well as print and issue publications about Vietnam’s tourism.
Ly Xuong Can, whoseKorean name is Lee Chang Kun, was born in 1958 in Seoul. He is the 31st generationdescendant of King Ly Thai To and the 26th generation descendant of Prince LyLong Tuong, who immigrated to the RoK in the 13th century.
In 1994, herepresented the Ly Hoa Son clan in the RoK in returning to Vietnam and visitinghis hometown in Dinh Bang ward, Tu Son town, the northern province of Bac Ninh.Six years later, he and his family received Vietnamese citizenship. He became amember of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee in September2014.
Can was appointedas the Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador for the three year tenure of December2017-December 2020.
In January 2019,the number of Korean tourists to Vietnam rose by 23 percent, surpassing Chinato become the largest source of tourists in the country.–VNA
