Master DjouadiMohammad, President of the Algerian Vovinam Federation, said thatAlgeria would send a strong team of 35 martial artists to the tournamentand hoped to surpass their 17 medals at the last championship in Paris,France.
Martial artist Mousa Kabli, who won asilver medal at the last championship, said he is aiming for a goldmedal this round.
According to Kabli, thisyear’s event will be very competitive and exciting, especially with thepresence of France and Vietnam, considered to be the two strongestteams.
According to Mohammad, Algeria, who isorganising the championship for the first time, has made all thenecessary preparations for the championship to take place successfully.
The 2015 championships will take place from July29 to August 2 in Algeria’s capital city of Algers with theparticipation of around 450 martial artists from 40 countries across theglobe.
Viet Vo Dao, a school of Vovinam, hasbecome popular outside Vietnam in recent decades and has 15,000followers in Algeria alone. Algerians were introduced to the martial artin 2001 by Master Mohammad.
At the third WorldVovinam Championship in Paris, France, Algeria won six gold, five silverand six bronze medals to finish third overall.
The first and second championships were held in Vietnam in 2009 and2011. Vietnam has ranked first in all three tournaments.
