Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals onthe first day of the ongoing fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games(AIMAG 2017) in Turkmenistan on September 18.
Weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan secured the first goldmedal for Vietnam with a lift of 282kg. Meanwhile, his teammate Tran Le QuocToan bagged silver with a lift of 276kg.
On the women’s side, weightlifter Vuong Thi Huyenpocketed a bronze medal.
The same day, Bui Thi Thu Thao secured a silver medalin the women’s long jump with a jump of 6.36 metres. Olga Rypakova ofKazakhstan won the gold medal with a jump of 6.43 metres.
AIMAG 2017 attractsathletes from 65 countries and territories, including some in the Oceania.
Vietnam sent a 164-memberdelegation to the event. Vietnamese athletes are going to compete in 14 of the21 sports of the Games with the aim of winning eight gold medals. -VNA
