Activities held nationwide to honour revolution contributors

Varous activities have been held across Vietnam over the past few days to express gratitude to martyrs, war invalids and other revolution contributors ahead of the 72nd War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

Hanoi (VNA) – Various activities havebeen held across Vietnam over the past few days to express gratitude tomartyrs, war invalids and other revolution contributors ahead of the 72nd WarInvalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

In the northern province of Hai Duong, aceremony took place at the martyrs’ shrine of Chi Linh city on July 25 to paytribute to the heroes. It was organised by the provincial Committee of the HoChi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) and the municipal People’s Committee.

To show gratitude to revolution contributors,over the past years, local authorities have also carried out many practicalactivities, including upgrading martyrs’ cemeteries, supporting the VietnameseHeroic Mothers, helping war invalids and former volunteer youths build houses,and assisting children of the contributors.

In the fights to liberate the nation, more than38,900 soldiers from Hai Duong laid down their lives while over 20,000 otherssustained wounds and thousands were affected by toxic chemicals.

In northern Ninh Binh province, delegations ofprovincial officials have visited and presented gifts to over 29,000 revolutioncontributors and their families.

Authorities have also offered incense to showtheir respect for martyrs at local cemeteries, restored the provincial martyrs’shrine and monument, built and repaired houses for revolution contributors, andpresented money saving books to those with disadvantages.

Over the past days, authorities of northern LangSon province have also sent delegations to visit local revolution contributors.

On July 24, the provincial HCYU Committee held acandle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the cemetery ofLang Son city.

A similar activity was also organised at the HamRong martyrs’ cemetery in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa by theprovincial HCYU Committee, the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa city and theexecutive board of the city’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha chapter.

In the southern central province of Ninh Thuan,the provincial People’s Committee held a meeting on July 25 to honouroutstanding revolution contributors. The 38 honourees, representing more than31,000 local contributors, have not only devoted themselves to the strugglesfor national liberation but also set examples in weathering difficulties towork to support their families and society.

At this event, philanthropists donated over 100million VND (4,300 USD) to the province’s gratitude fund, which has helpedrepair 5,200 houses of revolution contributors and presented gifts worth some84 billion VND to their families over the past years.

The same day, a ceremony took place in Hau Giangprovince to express gratitude to revolution contributors who number more than35,000 in this Mekong Delta locality, including over 12,500 martyrs, 500 warinvalids, and over 2,000 women granted or posthumously granted with theVietnamese Heroic Mother titles.

In recent years, authorities have built andrepaired about 11,000 houses for local revolution contributors, maintained thesearch for and repatriation of martyrs’ remains, and continued implementingpreferential policies for the contributors.
Hau Giang has also mobilisedvarious resources from the society for building and upgrading martyrs’cemeteries, shrines and monuments, helping to educate the younger generationson the revolutionary tradition.-VNA

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
