Hanoi (VNA) – Incumbent and former leaders of theParty, State, National Assembly, Government and the Vietnam Fatherland FrontCentral Committee offered flowers and incense to martyrs at the Martyrs’Monument in Hanoi on July 26 on the occasion of the 72nd Day of WarInvalids and Martyrs (July 27).
The delegation included Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc,National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former Party GeneralSecretary Nong Duc Manh, former President Tran Duc Luong, former NA ChairmenNguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung, and President of the Vietnam FatherlandFront Central Committee Tran Thanh Man.
They then paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at hismausoleum on the occasion.
The same day,many delegations from the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of PublicSecurity, the Government Office, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and SocialAffairs, and Hanoi city also laid wreaths in memory of martyrs and paid homageto President Ho Chi Minh.
The VietnamInvalids and Martyrs Day is a special chance for the entire country tocommemorate millions of martyrs and war invalids who sacrificed their lives andhealth during the wars.
In 1947, just two years after President Ho ChiMinh delivered the declaration of independence, the first decree onpreferential policies for war invalids and fallen soldiers was issued.
The same year, July 27 was designated as thenational war invalids day, which was later renamed the War Invalids and MartyrsDay, to call on the entire community to support war invalids and martyrs’families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation.-VNA
