Vientiane (VNA) - An incense offering ceremony washeld in commemoration of heroes and martyrs at theLaos-Vietnam Combative Alliance monument in Keun village of Thoulakhom districtof Vientiane on July 26, on the occasion of 72nd War Invalids and Martyrs Day(July 27).
The ceremony was attended by representatives from theVietnamese Embassy, the coordinating board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and the Vietnamese community in Laos, as well as the Laos War Veterans' Association.
Speakingat the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung said this was to commemorate and pay tribute to both Vietnameseand Lao heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence andfreedom of the two countries.
It also provides a chance to look back on the tradition offighting shoulder-to-shoulder against the common enemy in the past, and workingtogether to build and safeguard the two nations at present, Hung added.
He stressed that the two countries' young generations willcontinue to uphold the tradition and make all-outefforts to nurture and promote the time-honoured friendship,special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.
Located about 70km to the north of Vientianecapital city, the monument in Keun village was built by the Laos War Veterans’Association and the Vietnamese community in the country. It is meant tocommemorate 28 soldiers who died while protecting Vientiane capital in early1946.-VNA
