Workshop highlights VN-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership

The Asian Strategy Centre under the Institute of Economics in the Russian Academy of Sciences held a roundtable workshop in Moscow on June 1 to discuss achievements, difficulties and cooperation prospects in Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the 21st century.

Moscow (VNA) – The Asian Strategy Centreunder the Institute of Economics in the Russian Academy of Sciences held aroundtable workshop in Moscow on June 1 to discuss achievements, difficultiesand cooperation prospects in Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnershipin the 21st century.

The workshop mentioned successful cooperation areasbetween Vietnam and Russia over the past time, especially the Free TradeAgreement (FTA) between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the SoutheastAsian country and its impact on the development of bilateral relations.

Prof. PhD. G.Toloraya, Director of the AsianStrategy Centre, said at the time of signing the FTA with the EAEU, Vietnamalready had remarkable experience from its engagement in the ASEAN Free TradeArea (AFTA).

The participation in the AFTA has helped Vietnamincrease trade with leading countries in East Asia such as China, Japan, andthe Republic of Korea, he said.

Other reasons that Vietnam was selected as apartner of the EAEU are its political stability and crucial role in connectingRussia with other ASEAN member nations.

Vietnam recorded a sustainable economic growthof 5-6 percent in 2010-2015 and foreign currency reserves of up to 38 billionUSD as well as attracted regular foreign direct investment flows, he cited,noting that these macro-economic index helped reduce risks in Vietnam’s economyand create a favourable environment for Vietnam to join the FTA with the EAEU.

Participants suggested training personnel whoknow both Russian and Vietnamese and improving legal consultation forbusinesses.-VNA
