At the signing ceremony (Photo: sggp.org.vn)Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) onMarch 22 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in buildinga national strategy on intellectual property for Vietnam.
With the MoU, an official cooperationmechanism between the MoST and WIPO is created in building the strategy tosolve the country’s specific demands and priorities in the long, middle andshort terms.
Thesame day, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh hosted a receptionfor visiting WIPO Director General Francis Gurry during which he expressed hiswish to continue cooperation with WIPO in personnel training.
Anh said he believes that the visit will open up more collaborationopportunities for both sides.
He said in the past years, the Vietnamese government has paid attention tointellectual property in particular and science and technology in general andagreed on building a national strategy on intellectual property.
WIPODirector General Francis Gurry spoke highly of Vietnam’s progress in enhancinginnovation index and pledged to assist the Southeast Asian nation in pursuinginnovation-based development.
Vietnam needs to fully tap its mechanisms and policies on intellectual propertyand encourage businesses to pay more attention to this field, he noted.-VNA
