The World Bank (WB) will closely work with Vietnam to complete a population report with a vision towards 2035, WB Country Director for Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa has said.

At a meeting with Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan in Hanoi on September 11, Kwakwa said the WB President will visit the country by the end of this year to discuss the issue.

She underlined the significance of the report, which will help Vietnam build on the outcomes of reform and good economic growth over the past 30 years for further development in the next 20 years.

She also said labour productivity will be essential for the country to achieve the goal of ensuring equality in parallel with economic development, noting that local productivity has declined over the last 15 years.

According to the WB representative, the WB is conducting a survey in the country to measure the satisfaction of locals and businesses about anti-corruption efforts. She added that public access to information on anti-corruption is important, as it will create pressure to accelerate the fight against corruption.

The VFF President thanked the WB for its help in presenting the overall situation of Vietnamese economy.

He expressed hope that the WB will continue to support Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

Nhan affirmed that the VFF will encourage the people to join anti-corruption efforts while studying public satisfaction about local authorities’ performance in this regard.

Other issues discussed during the working session included labour productivity, land management, smart urban building, civil society, and local economic development benchmarks.-VNA
