Hanoi (VNA) – Secretary General and Vice President of the Vietnam Unionof Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong lauded the World PeaceCouncil (WPC) for contributing to the world peace movement over the past years.

He made thepraise during a reception in Hanoi on November 23 for an internationaldelegation attending the Congress of the WPC Executive Committee, scheduled forthe next day in Vietnam following the previous one in Brazil in 2016.

Phong saidVUFO is a socio-political organisation undertaking people-to-people diplomacyin the fields of peace, solidarity, friendship and people-to-peoplecooperation. It works to diversify and strengthen friendship and collaborationbetween Vietnam and countries in economy, culture, education,science-technology for the sake of peace, development, equality, sustainabilityand social progress.

Amiduncertain developments in the region and the world, Phong wished that the WPCand its members, including the Vietnam Peace Committee, would continuefulfilling its mission to tighten people-to-people solidarity and maintainglobal peace.

President ofthe Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples Silvio Platero Yrolaaffirmed that though geographically distant, the Vietnamese and Cuban Parties,States and peoples always offer mutual support for peace.

Secretary General of the All India Peace andSolidarity Organisation Pallab Sengupta expressed hope that Vietnam will raisemany solutions to the world peace movement and the WPC in particular.-VNA
