VNA journalist returns to war-torn province

Journalist Tran Mai Huong, former General Director of the Vietnam News Agency, is well-known for his articles and photos depicting fierce battlefields during wartime in Vietnam. For him, the central province of Quang Tri - once a war-torn area - left an unforgettable impression of young Vietnamese soldiers sacrificing their lives for national liberation and independence.

During the war, Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River divided the country into North and South.

Located on the river’s southern bank in Gio Linh district is Doc Mieu cemetery, where the grave of martyr Nguyen Thi Thu Hong lies. Journalist Tran Mai Huong took a photo of the young fighter in the early days of the 1972 Quang Tri campaign.

50 years later, Huong fulfilled his wish to visit Hong’s grave. His photo is the only image of the brave female guerrilla before she was killed.

Huong also met with other former guerrillas and listened to their stories of life on the battlefield.

They included Hoang Thi Cham, who was mentioned in one of his articles on the war in Vietnam.

Journalist Tran Mai Huong has travelled to many places around Vietnam, including war-torn locations in Quang Tri province.

Returning to Quang Tri this time has deepened his impression of the brave, loyal, and sincere local people./.
