During his working session with aninter-ministerial delegation of the Singaporean Government in Hanoi onApril 22, Thanh said Vietnam is comprehensively implementing a number ofprogrammes to prepare for its nuclear electricity development plan.
The country also strictly abides by the InternationalAtomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations and applies advanced technologyin the field.
According to Thanh, Vietnam has paid attention todeveloping atomic energy for peaceful purposes since the 1960s. Thesector actively contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.
However, he noted that Vietnam is also facingdifficulties and challenges, especially in human resources developmentserving the sector.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of theDepartment of Nuclear Radiation Safety under the Ministry of Science andTechnology Can Van Minh stressed the need to enhance internationalcooperation in developing nuclear electricity as well as the applicationof nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
He alsoshared information concerning Vietnam’s research and geological surveysfor building nuclear electricity plants, and the building of scenariosin response to nuclear electricity incidents in line with internationalexperience.
Peter Tan Hai Chuan from Singapore’s Ministryof Foreign Affairs underlined the significance of nuclear energy sourcesin the development of any country, saying it is a necessary componentof future progress.
He hoped through the visit, Singaporean delegates would learn from Vietnam’s experience in the field.-VNA
