Vietnamese, Lao police seek to foster collaboration

The security ministries of Vietnam and Laos held a conference in Vientiane on May 26 to discuss cooperationin combating crimes and ensuring social security and safety between the two police forces.

Vientiane (VNA) – The securityministries of Vietnam and Laos held a conference in Vientiane on May 26 todiscuss cooperationin combating crimes and ensuring social security and safetybetween the two police forces.

The conference was co-chaired by LieutenantGeneral Tran Van Ve, Acting Director of the General Police Department underVietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, and Major General ThongleckMangnomeck,Director of the General Department of Police of Laos’ Ministry of Security.
 
The two sides briefed each other on thecrime and security situation in each country, assessing the outcomes of theimplementation of agreements reached in the previous conference in 2016 inNhaTrang city, the central province of KhanhHoa.

They agreed that in the past year, alongwith the political instability and economic structure changes in the globe, regionalcountries, including Vietnam and Laos, are facing many challenges from increasedcross-border crime.

The two sides stressed the need to furtherfoster their cooperation in sharing information and experience in order to effectivelyimplement the plan on collaboration in combating crimes, thus safeguarding securityand order in each country and the region as a whole.

Participants concurred that police forcesof Vietnam and Laos must enhance partnership in crime information and investigation,and protectingsecurity and order in localities along the shared border.

At the same time, they pointed to theimportance of collaboration within the Interpol and ASEANPol.

The two sides will work closely inpersonnel training, and support each other in technique and other fields to ensuresecurity and safety in border areas, contributing to building the Vietnam-Laosborder of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The same day, the General Police Departmentdelegation led by Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve is scheduled to meet with LaoMinister of Security SomkeoSilavong.-VNA
