Hanoi (VNA) – The Lao Government has instructed relevant agencies to study theestablishment of a company to coordinate with Vietnamese partners on the developmentof a seaport in Vietnam’s central region.
The company will be a joint-stock one between the State and the private sector.
Spokespersonof the Lao Government Chaleun Yiapaoher revealed the information during a pressconference on May 25 after the Government’s regular meeting.
The spokesperson was quoted as saying that the instruction was given out duringthe Government’s fresh meeting.
Inlate April, 2017, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked betweenVietnam’s Transport Ministry and the Lao Public Works and Transport Ministryduring Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to Laos.
Underthe document, the two countries will work to turn Vung Ang port in Vietnam’scentral province of Ha Tinh into Laos - Vietnam International Port. The projectis expected to help Laos, a landlocked country to access maritime trade routes.- VNA
