Organised for the first time by both sides incollaboration with the Gender Equality Coordination Group (GECG) in Hanoi, theevent aimed to foster ASEAN solidarity, enhancing cooperation between ASEANcountries and international organisations in the lead up to Vietnam’sassumption of the ASEAN Chair in 2020.
Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, AWCH HonoraryChairwoman and wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh,spoke highly of the event’s initiative to strengthen friendship betweenVietnamese and foreign female diplomats, as well as give international friendsan insight into Vietnamese culture and arts.
Nga wished that female ambassadors, heads ofrepresentative offices, and diplomats would continue working closely together andpartner with Vietnam in widespread global integration and gender equalitypromotion.
GECG Co-Chairwoman and Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam MariaJesus Figa Lopez Palop acknowledged the GECG’s efforts in supporting Vietnamesewomen and pledged to continue helping the country with gender equalitypromotion in the near future.
On the occasion, jewellery designer Thu Huong and aodai (traditional long dress) designer Lan Huong introduced the arts of silkweaving and handcrafted pearl jewellery making to international friends.–VNA
