Hanoi (VNA) - Thanks to strong support of the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the rate of domestically-made cyber security and safety products has reached 91 percent and will amount to 100 percent next year.
The MIC is tasked with developing and mastering Vietnam’s ecological system of information security products in service of e-Government, smart urban areas and information system of national importance in accordance with the Resolution No.01 dated January 1, 2020 on key measures to carry out socio-economic development plan and State budget estimate 2020.
Building a strong cyber security and safety industry
Addressing the International Conference and Exhibition on Vietnam Information Security Day 2020 held in Hanoi on December 2, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung once again affirmed that protecting cyber security and safety is protecting Vietnam’s prosperity on cyber space. The responsibility is on the shoulders of cyber security enterprises. This is also the responsibility of the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA).
“To complete the mission well, we have to master the information security product ecosystem. We must build a strong cyber security industry,” he said.
Director of the MIC’s Authority of Information Security (AIS) Nguyen Thanh Phuc shared the results of the development of Vietnam’s cyber security and safety ecological system over the past time.
He added that the MIC advocates mastering cyber security and safety products and services as a key measure to ensure cyber security and safety in the country. Developing an ecological system of cyber security and safety will lay a foundation for its industry. Each agency and business needs a professional unit to ensure their cyber activities.
Since 2019, the MIC has focused on four major actions to develop “Make in Vietnam” ecological system, including promoting operations of the Alliance of Developers of Vietnam Cyber Security Ecological System, building and issuing technical criteria for reviewing quality of cyber security products and services, and popularising products for the ecological system.
As a result, the ecological system has seen strong progress with a rapid increase in the types of domestic products and revenue from domestically-made products compared to imported ones.
Statistics from the AIS showed that the rate of domestic cyber security products has reached 91 percent, up 1.7-fold from 2019 and more than 18 times from 2015.
Revenue from domestic products rose to 39 percent last year from 18 percent in 2015, and has so far reached 45 percent. The figure is expected to keep growing in 2021 and following years.
Apart from growth in terms of types of products, revenue from cyber security services soared from over 400 billion VND in 2016 to 1.49 trillion VND last year. It is expected to near 1.9 trillion VND this year.
Information safety revenue this year surged by over 50 percent, proving that Vietnam’s ecological system is strongly growing, an AIS representative said.
“Make in Vietnam” cyber security ecological system to reach 100 percent by 2021
Phuc also informed participants about activities to be launched by the MIC in the coming tome to develop the ecological system.
In the immediate future, the MIC will continue fine-tuning policies and mechanisms to build a project on developing the cyber security industry, perfecting a draft decision on procurement of machinery and equipment in the field to stimulate domestic demand.
In addition to increasing domestic cyber security products to 100 percent next year, the AIS also set the goal of raising market value by about 30 percent next year.
An AIS representative also vowed to hike cyber security expense three-four times next year.
The AIS will also build a system to review 300-500 versions of information security products up to international standards for the 2021-2025 period, which will help domestic firms save cost.
At the same time, it will hold communications campaigns to raise public awareness of the Make in Vietnam ecological system./.
