The annual eventis the world’s largest of its kind on telecommunications and informationtechnology (IT), with the participation of high-ranking officials, industryleaders and media agencies worldwide.
Themed“Innovating together: connectivity that matters”, the ITU Telecom World 2019took place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 9-12, drawing more than 5,000participants from over 100 countries and territories.
Speaking at thisyear’s expo, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung laidstress on the significance of the ICT in the digital world, and said allcountries need to join hands to make changes in technologies as well as outlinestrategies to create new values.
The ministeraffirmed that Vietnam is striving to shift telecommunications to ICTinfrastructure, with a national digital transformation strategy that includesthe engagement of the Government, businesses and society.
Statistics ofthe General Statistics Office showed Vietnam’s telecommunications revenuereached 184 trillion VND (7.91 billion USD) in the first half of 2019, up 7.13percent year on year.
As of June, thenumber of telephone subscribers nationwide is estimated to stand at 138million, a year-on-year increase of 11.1 percent. Of which, there are 133.9million mobile phone subscribers and 13.7 million fixed broadband internetsubscribers./.
