Manila (VNA) – Vietnam and Thailand will work together to educate theirpeople on not illegally fishing off each nation’s waters and issue jointadvance warnings against the act, the Prime Ministers of the two countriessaid.

PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-ocha reachedthe agreement during a bilateral meeting in Manila on April 29 on the sidelinesof the 30th ASEAN Summit.

At the meeting,the two PMs said they are pleased that the Vietnam-Thailand strategicpartnership has progressed well and agreed to resolve their outstanding problemsin the upcoming joint cabinet meeting.

Inaddition, the two sides agreed to work towards a trade balance and enhancedinvestment cooperation in which Thai investors will assist their peers fromVietnam.

Phuc urgedthe effective implementation of the action programme to carry out theVietnam-Thailand strategic partnership for the 2014-2018 period and establishedcooperation mechanisms in line with increase in high-level exchange of visits.

He proposedVietnam and Thailand hold negotiations on bilateral agreements in criminalextradition and judicial assistance.

He alsosuggested the two countries establish a hotline for settlement of maritimeincidents.

In terms ofASEAN cooperation, the leaders shared the view on prioritizing the building of unityin the bloc and promoting ASEAN’s central role. They agreed that ASEAN shouldenhance coordination of positions and viewpoints on regional security andstrategic issues, including the full and effective implementation of theDeclaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and pushing for realprogress in negotiating the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
